Web filtering is provided by a FreeBSD machine running Squid and Dansguardian. Web access is authenticated against Active Directory via NTLM to provide seamless access from our windows workstations.
Around 20 print queues are served from a FreeBSD machine running Samba and CUPS. A print quota system is provided by printbill
We are currently trialling a truancy system that will alert parents of truancy via SMS messages. This is provided by FreeBSD, GNOKII, some bespoke scripts that parse a report from our MIS (CMIS) and an aging SE T68i. We also using a voice mail system based on VOCP to handle parent responses.
Our network is monitored by Nagios running on FreeBSD which emails the IT support team when any issues arise and [www.ntop.org/ ntop] that monitors network load so we can identify problem areas.
We have started to roll out a campus wide wireless network that is protected by OpenVPN on FreeBSD. We also provide authenticated wireless internet access to visitors, staff and students using their own client equipment with NoCatAuth
In addition to this, we have a number of FreeBSD file, web, DHCP and DNS servers, routers and firewalls. The only Windows servers we have, run Active Directory and our proprietary MIS.
