Loquela Education Online
Loquela Education Online, built on the increasingly popular Moodle platform, is a project jointly funded by Loquela Language Centre and Educational Web Design with the aim of developing quality open online education. The project is currently in its infancy with the launch of the first chapter aimed at supporting UK schools (ICT Support Online) to be launched in September 2006.
ICT Support Online
More than just a community portal, ICT Support Online aims to provide direct expert assistance to teachers, ICT Coordinators, and LEA Schools Advisers on issues of Website Accessibility, Web Standards and Open Source Software. Membership to the portal is free to anybody working withing the UK Secondary and Primary sectors.
Members have access to a continuously growing bank of free news, articles, software downloads and other resources as well as preferential access to our partner services. The uniqueness of this resources is that our members are supported directly by our own professional experts and partners instead on relying simply on peer support from fellow members: we aim to satisfy all unanswered queries within 24 hours.
However, as a community portal aimed at a specific audience it is hoped that the future of the project will be driven directly by the needs of its members, their input and suggestions and not by the interests of its commercial partners.
One of the aims of the project is to encourage and support the use of Open Source Software in UK schools. In particular we hope to encourage schools to adopt of Moodle as the standard online education delivery tool within the UK. To this end a large section of ICT Support Online is dedicated to offering free information and support for teachers and ICT coordinators interested in implementing Moodle at their schools.
In addition, together with our partners overseas, Educational Design and Loquela Language Centre, we are working on plans to implement Moodle in an International School Exchange Network.
